GENERAL

  • How do I become an alumnus?
You will need to apply to one of our full training programs and complete the course satisfactorily. Alumni status is not guaranteed, but we work hard to support all trainees so that they can earn their alumni status.
  • When’s your next training program?
All our training programs are dependent on securing funding. Please follow our social media channels and visit our website regularly. We will advertise training courses and applications whenever funding allows.
  • Is there a cost to apply?
No, applying is completely free. There is never a charge to apply to or take part in any MAMA Youth programme.
  • Are there any jobs I can apply for at MAMA Youth Project?
We are a small team with most staff working part-time. As such, jobs are only advertised when available. Please note we can only help you with direct job opportunities if you are an alumnus. However, you are welcome to contact info@mamayouthproject.org.uk for general advice or for any other inquiries.
  • Can I do work experience or shadowing?
We sometimes have volunteering opportunities; however, our work-related support, such as work experience or shadowing, is only open to alumni. You can contact info@mamayouthproject.org.uk if you want advice or have any questions.
  • Do you have any offices or training anywhere else in the country?
Yes, where funding is available, we run courses around the UK, in cities such as Birmingham and Manchester. However, these are very limited. Please follow our social media for updates or information on course availability.
  • Can you send me information on your organisation?
Please contact info@mamayouthproject.org.uk with your request, and we’ll be able to address your specific needs.
  • Here’s my CV, can you look at it?
Currently, our talent services are only for alumni.

ALUMNI

  • Can you look at my CV or cover letter for a job application?
Yes, we support our alumni with their CVs, cover letters, and by offering advice and references. Please note that we can’t create or alter CVs for you, but we will give you detailed feedback and advice.
  • Can we do a mock interview?
Yes, you will need to book a talent consultation slot to work with a talent manager. Please note that these can often be in high demand, so you will need to give us plenty of notice, as there may not always be slots immediately available. We will, however, do our best to accommodate you.
  • Can you give me a list of talent managers?
No, we don’t give our direct contacts out without permission. We can, however, make an enquiry on your behalf. We also don’t give out contacts for speculative communication.
  • Can you forward my CV to talent managers?
We only forward on CVs when talent managers are making requests for candidates for roles from our talent pool. We do not generally pass on CVs for speculative communication.
  • Do you have any contacts in the industry that I can reach out to?
This would depend on why you need to make contact. You would need to discuss it with a talent manager, and if the reason is justified, they will reach out on our behalf. We do not give out contacts for direct contact without explicit permission.
  • Can you help with contract issues?
We will, of course, do our best to help you in any way we can; however, we are not employment law experts. We can share useful resources, answer questions we are experienced in handling, or connect you with organisations. We highly recommend that if you want expert advice, you contact organisations like BECTU, The Film & TV Charity, or ScreenSkills.
  • Can you help me navigate interpersonal conflict at work?
Managing interpersonal conflict can be difficult to navigate, and we understand you may need additional support. You can, of course, reach out to our talent managers, especially if you are on a placement. Please be mindful that every organisation has its own procedures in place, and you should always talk to your line manager first, where possible. We can also connect you with resources and organisations that can offer expert advice.
  • Are there any Masterclasses or up-skilling opportunities?
Masterclasses and up-skilling are entirely dependent on us securing funding. We are always seeking to offer these opportunities, and when they are available, we will contact you with the application links. Spaces are limited, however, so please keep engaged with the talent pool email, newsletter, and WhatsApp group so you don’t miss anything.
  • I’m feeling lost and confused. Can you help me with career advice?
We’re always here to help alumni, including offering career advice. Please book a talent consultation to speak to a talent manager.
  • Can you be a reference for me?
Yes, if you are an alumni you can list our talent manager as a reference.
  • Can you help me find another job?
Yes, please book a talent consultation.
  • Is there any way I can get help with funding?
We do not offer funding directly; however, we are always looking for resources and work with organisations, signposting anything available to alumni. Please engage with the talent pool emails, newsletter, and WhatsApp group to ensure you are notified when applications open or new resources become available.
  • Can you introduce me to a partner or company?
Generally, no, we don’t do direct introductions, especially if you’re not an alumnus. However, partners often requested to meet alumni or be given a list of talent with specific skills, or access to our talent pool. If you meet their criteria, we will, of course, pass on your contact information, and they will contact you directly.
